Singapore 2018

When I told my friends I was going to Singapore in August, almost all of them said something along the lines of, “Just like in Crazy Rich Asians!”

1. The trilogy was a great read.

2. Go see the movie. Not only because it looks fun, but also because the movie has the potential to be groundbreaking for representation in Hollywood.

Anyway. Back to me.

I have visited Singapore many times, and each time was great. Now that I have taken the bar exam and am on what may very well be my last summer vacation (!), I decided to visit Singapore again.

This time, I stayed at the Fullerton Bay Hotel — not to be confused with the hotel pretty much next door, the Fullerton Hotel Singapore. FBH is on the water and also a short walk from Merlion Park.

The hotel itself is gorgeous. The lobby is spacious and majestic, and the details in the architecture are beautiful. I love high ceilings, and this hotel pretty much only has high ceilings.

I booked this hotel through American Express Platinum Fine Hotels & Resorts Collection. One of the perks is a complimentary upgrade when available. Luckily for me, the upgrade was available, and FBH put me in a room facing the bay. The view…..was spectacular.

Breakfast here is plentiful, with food to order and also buffets of pastries, juices, yogurt, muesli, cold cuts, and fruit. It was good, but not mind-blowing. The eggs Benedict ordered on the first morning came lukewarm, which was disappointing. But during the second morning, I ordered roti with chicken curry and it was SO GOOD.

Outside the hotel, I still did a ton of eating.

I celebrated a birthday at Les Amis, which was delicious.

My companion’s first course: a beautifully-presented egg and salmon and turnip creation

My second course: carrot soup

My main course: slow-cooked duck

My dessert: chocolate and pistachio mille-feuille

After dessert, we were given a small plate of sweet bites: chocolate, raspberry tart, canelé. When I told them that I was much too full to eat anymore, they sweetly wrapped it for me to bring back to the hotel and enjoy later.

I was beyond full when the meal was over, but also so happy.

While at FBH, I also checked out their rooftop pool…

And enjoyed the softest robe known to man.

I also ate some delicious Chinese food at Lei Garden – Chijmes.

(That is a bowl of almond milk with sesame rice ball, which is one of my favorite Chinese desserts.)

Chijmes is also beautiful, both in the day and at night. It was once a church, but is now a monument in Singapore, filled with outdoor eating areas and also Lei Garden.

This time was a short visit to Singapore, since it’s so close to Malaysia and I was already in Kuala Lumpur. I can’t wait to come back.
