My last blog post was a bit depressing, and this past year has been wild, to say the least. But it hasn’t all been doom and gloom
I ate at Le Coucou (really great lamb and Meyer lemon chiboust)
I ate at a new local gem, Boucherie. Veal porterhouse was delicious, the lamb was rich and flavorful, and the chocolate profiteroles were divine.
ABCV is also very worth a visit. I’m quite far from vegetarian, but even I would go back for more of this food.
I found out that a law school friend from 1L is also a lover of pasta, and we made it our mission to eat some of the best pastas New York has to offer. So far we’ve gone to Marea (simply wonderful and worth returning to) …
and I Sodi (absolutely life-altering truffle butter pappardelle, in my opinion).
And I traveled!
I ate some great food in Malaysia and Taiwan.

I went back to Japan, this time with extended family.
We ate some good food.
And we ate some REALLY good food. This is Matsusaka beef. Only 2,500 cows that meet the standard are slaughtered each year. It’s basically only in Japan. This beef is also incredibly fatty — four slices, and you’ll be stuffed (my parents didn’t eat again for a solid 24 hours). But it is incredible. And at $40, it’s not that bad for such rare beef. We found this at a basement level five-seat counter restaurant at Osaka Takashimaya.
Of course, I’ve continued baking at Thanksgiving.
As the weather in New York got colder, I bided my time at a holiday party at the New York Public Library, drinking lots of hot cocoa at great brunch places, and enjoying the snow (even though I grew up in NY and spent four years in Michigan in the brutal cold, I still get excited over fresh snow).
It’s been an interesting year, to say the least. But here’s hoping to a better 2018, all around. I think it’s possible, as we’ve seen in Virginia and Alabama. In the meantime, keep eating well.
